"The Mysterious Artist"

My final project for Digital Illustration class.
I am so proud.

Yes, I realize she has no eyes.
I wanted to communicate that a geisha, within Japanese culture, is essentially a background character. She's no one important, she just comes, does her entertainment thing, and then disappears.
Underneath all the make-up and gorgeous kimono, there's a person hiding, but we do not see her in this guise.
It's a different kind of power.
Thus, I made my geisha into an everywoman, without an identity. Come to your own conclusions about who she is under the make-up, and why she smiles like that.
